MUZAFFARABAD: A delegation of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) on Sunday called on President Mamnoon Hussain and thanked the people and the government of Pakistan for their continued and unequivocal support to Kashmiris or the attainment of their right to self-determination.
While speaking on the occasion, President Mamnoon said that Kashmir was Pakistan’s jugular vein and Pakistan would continue to proactively extend moral, diplomatic and political support to Kashmiris in their struggle.
He called upon the international community and the United Nations (UN) to exert pressure on India to implement the UN resolutions for holding plebiscite in Kashmir and immediate cessation of human rights violations in the disputed state of Jammu Kashmir, being perpetrated against innocent Kashmiris.
He lamented the failure of the UN in resolving the 69 years old dispute and urged the world body to play its role in resolving the issue for durable and lasting peace in the region. Pakistan desired a peaceful resolution of the Kashmir issue through dialogue, he added.
Azad Jammu Kashmir (AJK) President Masood Khan and Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider Khan were also present at the occasion.
President Mamnoon urged the Muslim countries to unite and collectively exert pressure on the international community to resolve the longstanding disputes of Kashmir and Palestine.
He also appreciated the efforts of parliamentary delegation constituted by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and said that they had been successful in projecting the Kashmir issue in its true perspective and in highlighting the Indian atrocities, being perpetrated on hapless Kashmiris.
He said that he would ask the Foreign Ministry to regularly brief the foreign diplomats about the plight of Kashmiris and the urgency for a just resolution of the Kashmir issue. He further asked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to impress upon the international humanitarian organisations for the need to urgently provide food and medicine to oppressed Kashmiris, who were victims of Indian reign of terror and more than three months of curfew, which had created shortage of essential commodities.
The Kashmiri diaspora living abroad should be engaged to further play their role in highlighting the Kashmir issue and exposing Indian barbarism to garner international support.
The APHC delegation lauded President Mamnoon Hussain’s address to the joint sitting of the Kashmir Council and the Legislative Assembly. They said that it reflected the sentiments and aspirations of Kashmiris and won their hearts.
The president’s three-day visit to Muzaffarabad would infuse more vigour into the ongoing freedom struggle and raise the spirits and morale of Kashmiris.
