An important meeting on disaster management was held under the chairmanship of Punjab Relief Commissioner Nabil Javed. Director General PDMA, Irfan Kathia, briefed the Commissioner on various preventive strategies for managing hill torrents, urban flooding, and riverine floods in Punjab.
A comprehensive, permanent plan is being developed to protect against hill torrents, urban flooding, and river erosion across Punjab, stated Nabil Javed.
Over the past years, the Punjab government has provided PKR 50 billion in compensation to flood-affected families.

A PKR 48 billion project has been launched to curb urban flooding, control hill torrents, and prevent river erosion. This initiative aims to protect both urban and rural populations from flood devastation.
The project is divided into three categories: short-term, medium-term, and long-term. According to the Relief Commissioner, the short-term projects will be completed within one year, medium-term within three years, and long-term within five years. A comprehensive flood plan survey is also underway, which includes a satellite-mapped census of riverine communities. Population mapping in flood-prone areas across Punjab is ongoing. The government prioritizes safeguarding citizens’ lives and property from flood disasters, stated the Relief Commissioner.
